About Diversity Week

Diversity Week is an opportunity to celebrate the increasing diversity of the UQ community and to raise awareness of current issues that are impacting on the world’s diverse people, groups and communities.
UQ was the first Australian university to introduce Diversity Week and 2012 is the 10th anniversary.
During Diversity Week, UQ showcases the contribution made by its students, staff and alumni within Australia and across the globe and encourages the University community to engage in debate and dialogue about the issues raised by the increasing diversity of our communities and the impact of globalisation.
The highlight event of the week is the Vice-Chancellor’s Equity and Diversity Awards which are presented to staff or students who have made a significant contribution above and beyond their role in the area of equity and diversity.
2012 theme: Unity in Diversity
The theme challenges us to consider how our identity develops from the various experiences we have and how we might seek to understand people who have grown up in very different circumstances from our own.
