Interested in independent study as part of your MDP?
Do you have an interest in social justice, food, agriculture and the environment? Are you interested in doing some independent study as part of your MDP?
We have a research team in the school of Social Science who are currently engaged in a research project on the topic of ‘The New Farm Owners: Finance Companies and the Restructuring of Australian and Global Agriculture’. We would welcome students who might like to join us to research an aspect related to this work as part of their MDP. The kinds of research topics you might explore with us would include:
- The extent of foreign investment in Australian agriculture, and impacts for rural communities and domestic food security
- The impacts of foreign investment in driving the expansion of the global bio-fuels industry, and their social and environmental impacts
- The gendered dimensions of changing in land ownership, including the increasing involvement of foreign investment firms
- Resistance to land grabbing, and impacts for smallholder livelihoods.
Please contact us if you would like to discuss this research further please contact Dr Kristen Lyons kristen.lyons@uq.edu.au
