 Dentistry Alumni


The Dentistry Alumni was established in 1989 to foster mutually beneficial relations and a spirit of unity among Dentistry students, graduates and the School of Dentistry of The University of Queensland. It exists to promote the interests of The University of Queensland among members of the dental profession.

Who is eligible for Membership of the Dentistry Alumni?

  • Graduates in Dentistry and Oral Health from The University of Queensland;
  • Teaching Staff of The University of Queensland's School of Dentistry
  • Other colleagues in the profession of dentistry interested in supporting The University of Queensland's School of Dentistry and the objectives of the Dentistry Alumni.

New graduates in dentistry and oral health are offered one year's free membership in the Dentistry Alumni immediately following graduation.

Membership application forms are included in the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Courses booklet. There is a discount for attending CPE courses offered by the School for members of the Dentistry Alumni.

An application for membership can also be obtained from the Alumni Office (telephone 3365 1562) during business hours.

What has the Dentistry Alumni group achieved?

The Dentistry Alumni gains funds to support the School from

  • Regular major fundraising events
  • Donations and in-kind support from the dental industry
  • Direct contributions via membership fees for the Dentistry Alumni
  • Donations from members and non-members

Over the years, the Dentistry Alumni has provided financial and material assistance to support a range of teaching and research activities at the School of Dentistry.

Projects supported by the Dentistry Alumni include:

  • An extra-oral panoramic X-ray system (OPG)
  • Articulators for teaching in prosthodontics
  • Endodontic motors and handpieces
  • Sonic scalers for the periodontics clinic
  • Microscopes for teaching sessions in pathology and histology
  • Computer workstations for the Dentistry Library
  • Fundraising for the Chair of General Practice Dentistry, which was established with donations from the profession and from industry.
