Staff Awards
The University of Queensland wishes to recognise individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the University this year. The Vice-Chancellor is delighted to announce the introduction of two new awards for staff: The Chancellor’s Award for Individual Excellence and the UQ Leadership Award.
Nominations are to be proposed by Sponsors, who can be either the nominee’s supervisor or other member of staff. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Managers are encouraged to take the time to nominate staff members who have performed exceptionally well in 2009. Up to 5 awards within each category may be granted this year. Recipients of an award will receive $1000 for professional development activities and a certificate. A function will be held to recognise the achievements of all shortlisted nominees.
Specific criteria have been developed for both awards. The criteria for the Chancellor’s Award for Individual Excellence include the provision of quality service, engagement in process involvement/innovation, and involvement in knowledge transfer/community connection. This award is available to professional staff, and has been implemented to recognise employees in a similar manner to the awards that are currently available to academic staff.
The UQ Leadership Award has been introduced to recognise the importance of leadership, as identified by the 2008 staff engagement survey. This award is available to both academic and professional staff. The criteria for the UQ Leadership Award require the nominee to have demonstrated their proficiency in two distinct, yet related aspects; leadership outcomes and behaviours.
The criteria have been designed to facilitate a straightforward nominations process for both awards.
This is a very exciting new initiative and offers an opportunity to acknowledge those who have made outstanding individual contributions to the University in 2009 or have demonstrated excellence in leadership.
