Administration is provided by the Human Resources Division in functional co-operation with a Human Resources Unit within each academic faculty office and the Institute for Molecular Bioscience. The Human Resources Division directly services administration divisions and academic services such as the Library, TEDI and Information Technology Services (ITS).

The division operates as a central unit to provide a range of services to managers, organisational units and staff across the University. Its roles include: policy development, reflecting changes in legislation, Industrial Relations Commission decisions and outcomes of enterprise bargaining; ongoing human resource administration shared with Employee Benefits Section in Business Services; recruitment and staffing shared with faculty human resource units; managing academic continuing appointment and promotion; and supporting organisational units in planning and managing change while maintaining effective relationships with staff.

Human Resources Division includes the University's Occupational Health and Safety unit. Within this, the Workforce Injury Management (WIM) team administers the self-insurance of workers compensation for all University staff.

The division also has a central role defining policies and delivering programs in staff training and development.

The human resource units, under the control of a Human Resource Client Services Teams, are situated close to their client groups and undertake direct operational aspects of recruitment and selection, employment contract details, changes to employment contracts and leave management.

Working together with staff within schools, departments and divisions, these units form a network of human resource-orientated staff across the University's nine major groupings.

Human Resources Division, Ms Shard Lorenzo, Director

The division's goal is "... to develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures for the effective recruitment, retention, promotion and development of high quality staff; to assist managers to lead and manage their staff more effectively; and to support the effective implementation of change across the University."

The University Senate has endorsed a UQ People Strategy. The purpose of the Strategy is to focus the areas of priority in managing and developing our human capital to align with the University's Strategic Plan and to ensure the University is positioned to attract and retain a world class workforce.
