The University of Queensland is committed to sustaining high standards of performance in its academic staff and provides a selection of categories in which academics can perform their duties, viz. Teaching and Research (“T&R”), Research Focused (“RF”), Teaching Focused (“TF”) and Clinical Academic ("CA"). Confirmation in continuing appointment is based upon the assessment of the staff member’s performance and trajectory over the relevant probationary period against the criteria for the level of appointment set out in the Criteria for Academic Performance (PPL 5.70.17) e.g. a staff member seeking confirmation at Level B will have the Level B criteria applied. A staff member on a probationary appointment should aim to establish a trajectory which demonstrates they can achieve and maintain standards expected for the level, as appropriate for the discipline. The procedures below outline application submission requirements for staff members and their Heads.

 
Seminars are conducted annually.  The Academic Orientation website includes various resources, including videos on annual appraisal, academic continuing appointment and promotion.
 
The Online Academic Portfolio is available through the Academic Portal to assist you in creating an electronic Form A - Academic Portfolio of Achievement.  The Portfolio enables you to import your records from central data systems, including appointment history, grants and publications, as well as transfer information stored in your Profile, such as awards and teaching activities.  The Portfolio is easy to access and update throughout the year an produces an exportable Microsoft Word.docx file.
