Australian Business Number (ABN)
The University of Queensland's Australian Business Number is: ABN 63 942 912 684.
Funding
University income includes Government grants, student contributions through the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS), tuition fees, research grants and contracts, bequests, donations and miscellaneous revenue. In 2002 the University employed more than 4600 staff and its total operating revenue was $814,450 million. Assets included 1940 hectares of land on which stood 692 buildings with an asset replacement value of $705 million.
Revenue
The University's Operating Budget represents about two-thirds of total income and this supports major teaching, research and associated activities. The remaining third comes from specific research grants and contracts, provision of services to the community, and donations. In 2001, the University derived 56 percent of total income from sources outside the Commonwealth Operating Grant. This passed the 55 percent goal set for 2004 and put the University well on the way to achieving the 60 percent nominated in the 2002-2006 Strategic Plan.
Expenditure
Two-thirds of net income supports teaching and research. Other major expenses include libraries, student and public services, academic support services, property and facilities and administration.
Fund-raising
Direct fundraising is conducted through the Advancement Office. An annual appeal and other activities help fund scholarships, research, equipment, library resources and UQ-Link, the University's special entry program for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The University also benefits from fundraising by The Alumni Association of the University of Queensland Inc., graduate associations in Australia and overseas, and the Friends of UQ Ipswich.
