The University's Staff Development Policy derives from the high value placed by the institution upon its staff and the belief that they are central to the University's endeavours. Extending the knowledge and skills of staff is one of the University's key commitments.

The aim of staff development is to assist the development of each individual, thereby enhancing the University's performance through improved organisational efficiency and effectiveness. Staff members have a clear responsibility to develop their skills to enhance performance in their current positions and to be ready to assume further responsibilities.

Staff development and personal planning are discussed and plans are agreed by the staff member and academic supervisor during the annual review. A list of current staff development courses may be obtained through the Staff Development Program website.
