Television and Memory Group
The Cultural Histories and Geographies and Media Histories Nodes plan to hold a joint one-day workshop on ‘Television and Memory’, designed to bring together media history and memory theory approaches to the study of television. The workshop is interested in exploring histories of Australian television, but also aims to consider the way television – and other media – contributes to the field of popular or collective memory. In particular, the workshop aims to bring some of the theoretical approaches to memory developed within the areas of memory studies and history to bear on Australian media history. This workshop will be funded by the Cultural Histories and Geographies Node and will be held in Melbourne during November 2009 to coincide with an exhibition of Australian history and television to be held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).
