Communities versus Publics Workshop
Date: May 2008
Location: University of New South Wales
This workshop will give participants a chance to pool empirical research that allows us to collectively explore issues around the conceptualisation of social life, in ways that both enhance scholarship and provide new ways into thinking about intervention in public policy debates.
The workshop will be organised in several ways:
- there will be two papers distributed prior to the event, which will broach key theoretical and empirical issues), and a set of discussion questions (around conceptual and methodological issues)
- on the day, several participants will give brief position papers which address issues raised in the distributed papers, connecting empirical issues with conceptual focus
- other participants will be asked to respond drawing on their research interests.
- the discussion will be structured to lead to the identification of research opportunities, link to research proposals currently in train, follow-up activities and papers for publication.
