The program represents an innovative approach in corporate education as it brings together senior managers and decision makers of three to five non-competing organisations to develop and apply their collective skills to their organisational issues or opportunities.

Course Director Dr Kevin Hendry says, “The aim is to develop a viable solution for each organisation as well as to develop an internal consulting capability among each organisation’s participants, one that can be applied to other strategic imperatives.”

The program focuses on the organisation rather than on developing individual skills and uses customised content, reflective and peer learning, in the context of significant ‘live’ cases from each participating organisation.

Organisations participating in the inaugural Advanced Management Program were chosen from different industry sectors and included GroundProbe, the Endeavour Foundation and the Public Service Commission.

This cross sector participation provides participants with a rewarding exchange of experience and the opportunity to gain new perspectives.

To date, participants have come together for two intensive sessions to collaborate on their cases, share their insights and listen to guest speakers.

Guest speakers at the sessions have included Gerhard Vorster, Chief Strategy Officer for Deloitte Australia and co-author of As One: Individual Action, Collective Power, the New York Times bestseller on business leaderships and collaboration.

Second speaker was Dr James Bradfield Moody the Executive Director, Development for CSIRO and regular panel member on the ABC TV’s The New Inventors. James spoke around the topic of his book The Sixth Wave: How to succeed in a resource-limited world.

The Advanced Management Program is one of many corporate education courses offered by the UQ Business School which the Financial Times recently ranked as one of the world’s top-50 schools providing executive education.
