Grade
Point Average Calculations
Under
Unitisation
The term "Grade Point Average" will continue to be used. Under the
unitised program structure GPA is defined as:
"The average of the grades of result obtained by a student enrolled
in courses, weighted by the unit value of each course in accordance
with the following formula:
GPA = sum of (GU) / sum of (U)
Where
G = grade of result in each course; and U = unit value of each course.
If
for any reason a student does not achieve any grade of result in
a course for which the student was regarded as being enrolled, the
value of G and U for that course shall be taken as zero."
Calculating
GPA Across Credit Point and Unitised Programs
A formula has been devised to calculate GPA for students who have
enrolled across the two different program structures.
The
following equation can be used to determine Semester GPA (GPA for
one given semester), Cumulative GPA (at any given point in time
of the program), and Total cumulative GPA (GPA for the total academic
record):
GPA
= (GPAa x U1) + (GPAb x U2)
U1
+ U2
Where:
GPA
= Grade Point Average
GPAa
= S (CPn
x Gn)

U1
= Total number of units completed pre-unitisation =

Examples
are provided to help demonstrate how the formula can be applied.
