Can we revegetate pH 12? - Revegetation trials at Nabalco’s alumina refinery at Gove

The CMLR in conjunction with Nabalco Pty Limited is presently developing techniques to revegetate the highly alkaline red mud.

The primary objective of the research is to determine a cost-effective means of establishing native vegetation on dry-stacked red mud that will minimise erosion, visual impact and off-site effects.

Research is focusing on the monitoring of water and solute movement within capping materials and the sustainability of the revegetated ecosystem.
