Sustainable pasture rehabilitation - Research into pasture rehabilitation and cattle grazing on open-cut coal mines in central Queensland.

The CMLR, with funding from ACARP and support from several BHP Coal minesites, are investigating the current status and projected sustainability of pasture rehabilitation in the Bowen Basin.

Research has identified soil and landscape parameters affecting pasture performance and surface stability which will ultimately provide a framework against which the success of rehabilitation approaches can be evaluated.

Grazing trials are in progress to assess the capability of these pastures to support grazing as a post-mining land use.
