Benefits from fungi - The role of microsymbionts in the development of sustainable ecosystems on mined land

At a number of sites where CMLR researchers are addressing issues of native vegetation establishment and ecosystem sustainability, one of the parameters monitored is that of mycorrhiza. These symbiotic fungi can play a significant role in:
  • Increasing seedling survival, growth rates and uptake of nutrients
  • Improving the species tolerance to salinity and water deficits
