Direct into tailings - Ecosystem development on tailings at Kidston Gold Mine

For the past eight years, Kidston Gold Mines Ltd has been researching the direct revegetation of tailings. For native tree species endemic to the region, the success rate from planting tubestock has been very high.

To ensure long term sustainability of the developing ecosystem, establishment directly from seed has to occur. Trials by the CMLR are measuring the success of this approach.
