Course:
Water Management in the Minerals Industry (MINE7050)

This course will introduce you to the characteristics, design and operation
of mine water management systems. It will discuss water supply and how
the various sources and cycling of water can impact on water quality and
effect local and regional supplies. Acid mine drainage, salinity, heavy
metal toxicities are all issues associated with water management that
will be covered throughout the course.

- Hydrological cycle on mine sites
- Regional-to-local surface and subsurface hydrology.
- Typical sources and characteristics of contaminants.
- Fate and transport of contaminants.
- Monitoring strategies and objectives
- Methods for monitoring mine water quantity and quality.
- Site hydrology and water requirements
- Data analysis and presentation.
- Understanding the management process
- Understanding life cycle assessment of mining operations
from planning through to lease relinquishment and how this impacts
on the various management strategies.
