Course: Community
Aspects of Mineral Resource Development (MMME7403)
Course Co-ordinator: Dr David
Brereton, Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining This course
aims to equip students with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will
help them to understand, engage with, and contribute to the development
of communities that are impacted on by mining and related activities.
The objectives of this program are:
1. highlight the importance of the community aspects of minerals development
and inform students about how these issues are being addressed by industry
at the local, national and international levels,
2. provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills
and attitudes to identify and analyse community issues and develop appropriate
responses to these issues,
3. enhance the capacity of students to advocate for community-oriented
initiatives, particularly at site level,
4. encourage self-reflection about corporate social responsibility
and appropriate engagement practice in the minerals industry.

There will be an emphasis on case studies and will provide a
section on good communication strategies and components, and guidelines
for constructive discussions.
