How will it look in 30 years? - Ecosystem development following
heavy mineral sand mining on North Stradbroke Island
The CMLR in conjunction with Consolidated Rutile Ltd is assessing
a range of rehabilitation areas to determine if there are significant
changes in the development of the post-mining ecosystem with age.
Studies of vegetation and soil profile development, mycorrhizae,
nutrient cycling, water relations, soil seed stores and fire ecology
are being undertaken to increase our understanding of ecosystem
development in this coastal sand environment.
