Three Minute Thesis is an exercise in developing academic and research communication skills.

In 2008, The University of Queensland (UQ) ran the inaugural Three Minute Thesis Competition with 160 internal competitors.  In 2009 the second competition attracted 230 competitors at UQ .   2010 will be bigger and better with UQ hosting both the UQ Final and the Inaugural Australia and New Zealand Grand Final.

Research higher degree (PhD and MPhil) students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.
