The Stuartholme-Behan Collection of Australian Art
Dr Norman Behan (1908–2000) was a general practitioner, art collector and philanthropist. Over a 40-year period he compiled a collection of Australian art from the colonial period to the 1960s. As his collection grew, he lent works to the Stuartholme Convent in Bardon.
The Stuartholme-Behan Collection of Australian Art (originally known as the Behan Collection) was permanently loaned to The University of Queensland in the 1970s by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Stuartholme.
The collection of approximately 100 artworks includes key works by artists such as Rupert Bunny, Charles Conder, Bessie Gibson, Max Meldrum, Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton and Jon Molvig. The Behan legacy celebrates this significant collection.
