Sharon Beeston - 1969
| Sharon at her graduation at City Hall in 1972. |
Sharon Beeston was enrolled in her Bachelor of Science degree from 1969 to 1971, and was in classes at uni on the historic day of the first manned lunar landing.
On the day of the moon landing in 1969, our Applied Maths 1H class was in a lecture theatre in the physics building wondering where our lecturer was. Suddenly he rushed into the room shouting "What on earth are you doing here when man is landing on the moon?"
We dutifully filed out and watched the broadcast, after which he asked us to submit "a mathematical essay on a trip to the moon".
Looking back I can't believe how blasé we were about the whole thing - I imagine we were throwing paper planes at the aircon vents as usual!
