Richard Bonner came from a cattle property near Stanthorpe to study Medicine at UQ and is now a Rural Procedural GP/Obstetrician in his home town.

I was in 5th year medicine at the time of the first Great Court Race in 1985 and got into trouble with Prof Lawrie Powell for skipping his lecture to compete.  For punishment I had to do a presentation on AIDS which was then relatively new in Australia.

The race was won by Steven Shirley after I led for two thirds of the race then died in the home straight.

He got a lovely set of goblets presented by the Duchess of Kent and the rest of us received a poster of the University.  Should have run harder!
