The People's UniversityThe People's University: 100 Years of the University of Queensland
To celebrate the Centenary, a high quality pictorial book has been produced by the University of Queensland Press.  It is an ideal gift for friends and family, or can serve as your own personal souvenir of this momentous year. 

Authored by Ben Robertson, The People's University tells the story of UQ, as well as showcasing the University’s people, architecture and landscape.  The book was launched on 16 April at the birthday celebrations for current staff and students and was on sale at the UQ Centenary Celebrations Day.

Script for SuccessScript for Success:  50 Years of Pharmacy at The University of Queensland
The School of Pharmacy has published a history book to coincide with its Golden Jubilee in 2010.  Script for Success:  50 Years of Pharmacy at The University of Queensland covers five decades of Pharmacy at UQ .  The authors, Judith Nissen and Moya Pennell, have included recollections from past and present staff and students.   The book was launched at the School of Pharmacy Golden Jubilee Gala Evening on 17 April.

Bush Friends - Plate from Found In FryerFound in Fryer: Stories from the Fryer Library Collection
The Fryer Library is a rich store of rare books, manuscripts, theses, pictorial collections and architectural drawings.  Its emphasis is on Australian literature, history, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, art and architecture.  Within that range, it has a particular focus of material with a connection to Queensland and to the University of Queensland. 
 
Found in Fryer: Stories from the Fryer Library Collection showcases 100 treasures from the Fryer Library collection was produced by the UQ Library.   The book was launched on 30 November and is on sale through the Co-op Bookshop for $49.95 (hard cover) and $29.95 (soft cover).

Agricultural Science at the University of Queensland: A Centenary Celebration
The first students of Agricultural Science graduated in 1929, and since then UQ has produced a stream of professionals who have worked with landholders and policy makers to change the practice of agriculture.  In celebration of the University's Centenary, a book is being produced by the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences to document the impact UQ agriculture graduates and staff have had on primary production in Queensland and beyond.
 
Agricultural Science at the University of Queensland has been written by L Ross Humphreys.   The book was launched on 29 June 2010 at the Agricultural Science 50 Years Reunion luncheon and is now available for sale at a cost of $15.00 per copy.  Please contact the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences for information.
 
 
The Forgan SmithThe Forgan Smith: History of a Building and its People at The University of Queensland
The Forgan Smith Building is the premier building on the St Lucia campus.  Constructed between 1937 and 1942, the building was occupied in World War II by the Allied Advanced Land Headquarters (Landops) and served as the headquarters for General Sir Thomas Blamey before being returned to the University after the war. The School of History, Philosphy, Religion and Classics has published an architectural and social history of this great Australian building.  
 
The Forgan Smith: History of a Building and its People at The University of Queensland by Clive Moore was launched on the Alumni Reunion Weekend.   The text is augmented by a wide range of photographs.  Copies are on sale at a cost of $29.95 per copy at the Co-op Bookshop.
 
 
A Centenary HistoryThe University of Queensland Library: A Centenary History, 1910-2010
The UQ Library is the largest research library in Queensland and its beginnings date to those of the University itself.  A history of the Library, authored by John W. East, has been produced and was launched at the reunion for UQ Library staff held on 2 July as part of the Alumni Reunion Weekend.  The various stages of the development of the UQ Library are covered from the beginnings of a provincial university and its books to the electronic library of today.
 
The book is currently available in the UQ Library and also online.
 
 
Writers FootprintsWriters Footprints: A Literary Guide to Queensland
As a contribution by the Faculty of Arts to UQ’s Centenary celebrations, a book by Dr Stanton Mellick, a former UQ staff member, has been sponsored jointly with the University of Udine in Italy.   Writers Footprints: A Literary Guide to Queensland (Australian Scholarly Publishing, 2010) is organised by place name and lists Queensland localities mentioned in works of creative writing or associated with creative writers themselves.
 
Writers Footprints: A Literary Guide to Queensland was launched during the 2010 Brisbane Writers Festival, 1-5 September 2010 and is available at selected retailers.
 
 
Before Time TodayBefore Time today:  Reinventing Tradition in Aurukun Aboriginal Art
In conjunction with a major art exhibition being staged by the UQ Art Museum for the Centenary, the University of Queensland Press has produced a book about Aurukun Aboriginal art.  
 
This publication is the first major study of the art and culture of the Aborigial Wik and Kugu people from the Aurukun region of Australia.  It examines the relationship between contemporary art and the visual traditions of the past.
 
Before Time today:  Reinventing Tradition in Aurukun Aboriginal Art has been on sale from the date of the opening of the exhibition, 11 September 2010, at a retail price of  $39.95.  The book, edited by Sally Butler, with contributing authors Professor John von Sturmer, Peter Sutton, Sally Butler, Tony Albert (interview with two of the artists), David F Martin and Georges Petitjean, is available from the UQ Art Museum, the Co-op Bookshop and other selected retailers.
 
The Presence of Absence: Images of an Institution
Architectural photogrpaher, Peter Liddy, was commissioned to produce a set of photographs of buildings on the UQ Ipswich campus, as part of the campus' celebration of the Centenary. The book produced from the photgraphes documents original buildings and presences at UQ Ipswich.  The oldest buildings date back to the 1870s.
 
The twenty black and white photographs depict the heritage and contemporary buildings of the campus, exploring, through the use of dark and light, the gulf between their past and present use.  The book is a lasting tribute to the University of Queensland's first 100 years and to its commitment to the preservation of a remarkable campus environment.  The Presence of Absence: Images of an Institution is on sale at the Ipswich Art Gallery and also at the Co-op Bookshop.

UQ Centenary Map

The School of Architecture has created a UQ Centenary map, which provides a visual history of the physical environment of the University’s St Lucia campus, in celebration of the contribution of architecture to one Australia’s premier environments for research, teaching and learning. 
 
Incorporating a decade-by-decade description of significant architects, their ideas and their buildings, the map reveals how architecture has acted to express the aspirations of the institution while also reflecting currents in architectural thinking.

The map is on sale at the Co-op Bookshop and is priced at $14.95.

Cards

 The UQ Art Museum, in association with its exhibition 100 Years: Highlights from The University of Queensland Art Collection produced a set of 18 cards together with a tri-fold mini-catalogue and essay, contained in a handsome gold-coloured and embossed card wallet-style box.  
 
The cards feature a selection of 18 works from the Collection, ranging from 19th century works to contemporary.  The individual cards and the card container feature both the UQ and Centenary logos.  
 
The boxed sets are on sale at $25 per set at the UQ Art Museum.
