The University of Queensland (UQ) will host the inaugural Australia and New Zealand Grand Final:  The Three Minute Thesis Competition.

The UQ Graduate School developed and hosted the first Three Minute Thesis competition in 2008.  The “3MT” concept has been enthusiastically adopted at other institutions in Australia and New Zealand and enthusiasm has grown to a consensus for the competition to become a national and trans-Tasman event.

Each institution will send one finalist to compete.  Currently, 25 other Australian and New Zealand Universities have registered their interest to compete.

Three Minute Thesis is an exercise in developing academic and research communication skills.  Research higher degree (PhD and MPhil) students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.
