Food security is threatened by a range of factors which include climate change, decline in productive ecosystems, trade policies, conflicts and emerging bioeconomies.
Australia is not typically regarded as a food insecure nation yet 2 million Australians require food assistance annually. At the same time, an extraordinary $5.2 billion of food is wasted each year in Australia. Food security is not just about the capacity of a country to produce food but also encompasses availability, accessibility, acceptability, adequacy and stability.
The Agriculture and Food Security public forum will address national and international challenges associated with food security. Speakers will raise topical issues and the audience will be invited to participate in an extended open discussion.
