Doug Moffett completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree in the 1940s at the George Street campus and remembers "Commem."
In the months leading up to graduation, “commem pracs” were held of a Saturday night in the recently renovated Old Government House. These were a dance interspersed with learning all the University songs. A senior student acted as M.C., song books were provided, and a pianist accompanied the singing. At the end of each dance, couples paraded around the Kidney Lawn on the north side of the building. Apart from the faculty songs, there were University songs such as “Pour Bacchus”. A few lasting friendships between students developed during these evenings.
