The Centenary Celebrations Committee

The Senate of the University established a Centenary Celebrations Committee charged with oversight of the Centenary, advising on general form and content for the celebrations.

The committee comprised a number of representatives of Senate including:

  • The Chancellor
  • The Deputy Chancellor
  • The Vice-Chancellor

The committee also included:

  • The Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor
  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Relations)
  • The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Advancement)
  • A representative of the Executive Deans
  • Senior directors of divisions that were key to the staging of the celebrations.

The Centenary Task Force

The Centenary Celebrations Committee established a Centenary Task Force to further develop the implentation of ideas generated by the Centenary Celebrations Committee.

Led by the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Task Force also included:

  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Relations)
  • A representative of the heads of school
  • The President of the UQ Union
  • The directors of the Office of Protocol and the Office of Alumni and Community Relations
  • The Executive Officer of the Centenary Secretariat.

The UQ Centenary Secretariat

The Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor was the member of the Senior Executive of the University with responsibility for the Centenary.  Within his Office, he established the UQ Centenary Secretariat, consisting of an Executive Officer and an Events Coordinator, to work with him and with the two committees to coordinate the planning and organising activities. 

The UQ Centenary Secretariat worked very closely with the University's Office of Alumni and Community Relations, the Office of Protocol and the Office of Marketing and Communications in the staging of the Centenary celebrations.

Centenary Communications

A Project Officer (Centenary Communications) was appointed in the Office of Marketing and Communications to lead the Centenary communications effort. 

Organisational units

Organisational units (academic and non-academic) across the University were integral to the staging of the Centenary celebrations.  They nominated Centenary Contacts to form a network through which planning communications could be shared and planning activities could be coordinated.

Working Groups and Event Managers

Working groups were formed to conduct planning for major corporate events, such as the Centenary Alumni Reunion Weekend and the Oration Series. 

An external event manager, Ms Verity Woodford, was appointed to organise the Centenary Celebration Day.
