Stephany Evans Steggall commenced her studies at the University of Queensland in 1969. After many years of teaching and raising a family, she returned to the university to complete postgraduate studies in Australian Literature, with an Honours thesis entitled ‘Worthy of My Life’s Time’: A Critical Analysis of the Poetry of David Rowbotham in Terms of His Reassessment of His Career; and a Masters thesis, John Blight: An Australian Poet Corresponding in the Community of Writers, the Community of the Natural World and the Community of the Public Sphere . These studies culminated with a PhD thesis, Colin Thiele: Double Vision: Author and Educator, adapted for her first book: Can I call you Colin? The Authorised Biography of Colin Thiele (2004). She has published two other biographies: The Loved and the Lost: The Life of Ivan Southall (2006) and Bruce Dawe: Life Cycle (2009). Another book, Yours sincerely, Colin Thiele (2008), has been compiled and edited in recognition of Thiele’s long engagement with his readers through correspondence. Steggall has also worked as a researcher on The Bibliography of Australian Literature project, with the AustLit team at the University of Queensland.
