Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble

The Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble exists to engage Queensland communities with Shakespeare - to strengthen connections and relationships between community members, and to create evocative, engaging theatre that awakes the senses and impassions the lives of its audiences and artists.

QSE is committed to sharing epic stories with live audiences and considers spoken language the paramount means for doing so. The Ensemble’s core belief is that performance is most potent when actors train together, developing a sense of community out of which art is created.

Established in 2001, QSE engages communities through its performances, training programs, and community development projects. In addition to productions of well-known Shakespeare plays such as As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Coriolanus, and Comedy of Errors, QSE has performed its high-energy abbreviated Shakespeare’s Shorts (four different ones) at a variety of events since 2004. QSE is also responsible for original works such as Food of Love, Shakespeare’s Briefs, The Madness of King Lear and the award-winning Metamorphoses.

Since 2006, QSE has run an innovative program in Queensland prisoners, engaging prisoners with theatre practice and the performance of Shakespeare. QSE offers training in acting, voice, and applied theatre to professional actors and the general public.
