Humphrey McQueen

Humphrey McQueen (1942- ) began studying part-time at University of Queensland in 1960. He edited Semper in 1964. Following A New Britannia in 1970, he published fourteen books and a corpus of essays on economics, history, the media, opera, politics and visual art. The Essence of Capitalism (2001) is a Marxist analysis of monopolising capitals through the development of Coca-Cola. The most recent is Framework of flesh, builders’ labourers battle for health and safety (2009). Since 1975, he has been a freelance writer based in Canberra. He has taught at universities here and abroad. He was visit Scholar in Art History at the University of Queensland in 1979, the year of his The Black Swan of Trespass, a study of Modernism in Australia.
