Born in Melbourne in 1971, Andrew Stafford arrived in Queensland in early 1987. This was at the time an experience more akin to being beamed down onto another planet than simply moving interstate, and became the initial inspiration for Pig City: from the Saints to Savage Garden, a musical, political and social history of Brisbane pre- and post-Bjelke-Petersen era. In July 2007 the book was transformed into a key event as part of the Queensland Music Festival, with an all-day concert staged on the grounds of the UQ campus headlined by the original line-up of seminal Brisbane band The Saints.
Andrew writes about the Brisbane Lions for The Age, but barracks for Collingwood. His journalism has also appeared in The Bulletin, Griffith Review and The Monthly. He is currently writing his second book, due in 2011, for University of Queensland Press.
