Welcome to our September Newsletter!

In September The Centre for Communication and Social Change has been working on many exciting projects. Three new Postdoctoral research fellows are joining us from different places in Australia, this month we welcome writer, director and producer Sonja Vivienne, who just completed her PhD at QUT exploring digital storytelling as a tool for everyday activism. Heather Anderson and Martin Potter will be joining us in November.

Our Centre's staff is working to get everything ready for the 2014 Communication for Social Change Awards. Help us extend our call globally by promoting the Awards so we have applicants from all over the world. Nominations are now open!

We'd also like to invite you to explore the remote island of Kiribati, where PhD student Grady Walker held a workshop on video production for Kiribati youth.

In
Student Spotlight we'd like to introduce you to our former CSC masters student, Nilesh Nikade, who is the Media and Communication Coordinator for Save the Children in India. Be inspired by the amazing work Nilesh does.

This is you
r chance to read PhD student Steven Sam's blog in the Communication Initiative Network, on mobile phones transforming the lives of people in post-conflict Sierra Leone.

Read in PhD candidate Muhammad Makki's own words his field work experience on the contentious topic of coal seam gas extraction.

In From the Centre we welcome this
semester's new students. In September's edition we introduce you to Juan Pablo del Pino from Chile, who is convinced that communication for social change can have a great impact in South America.

The Media Development journal recently published PhD candidate Tamara Plush's article on visual storytelling for women's empowerment. Have a look!

The Centre has been preparing the screening of Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and the Search for Identity documentary film about a human rights social movement in Argentina. You are invited to watch it on Thursday October 3.

Get the latest news on seminars and events in From the Field and all the information you were looking for on current work and volunteering experience in Australia and overseas in Opportunities.

We appreciate your feedback about the newsletter and input on what you would like to hear about in the future.
