August 2013

Welcome to the newsletter for the
Centre for Communication & Social Change

August has been the month of our students. Our recently graduated student from the CSC master, Ali Rae was named finalist for the 2013 Clarion Awards. Although Ali did not win this time, we are very proud of the body of work she entered for the competition, which was filmed in PNG during her Practicum.

Anya Lim from the Philippines has also had a fruitful career after graduation. Find out how the CSC master has given Anya the tools required to succeed in the social enterprise field.

In August, Brisbane celebrated Fair Food Week, which was actively organised by PhD student Cat Green. Get all the details if you missed it and how you can get involved with the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance.

On this edition of Student Spotlight we'd like to introduce you to our former CSC master student Carolina Siqueira from Brazil, who graduated on 2011. Find out from Carolina's own words what is like to work as a Communication for Development Specialist in remote Northern Territory of Australia.

Also get a feeling of the work our PhD student Hagos Nigussie from Ehtiopia is doing with teenage refugees at Yeronga State High School.

In From the Centre find out what PhD students are almost finished with their thesis and how it feels to be coming to the end of a long but fruitful journey.

We'd also like you to meet this semester's new students. On August's edition we give the warmest welcome to Jordan Tredinnick from Wollongong, Australia, who is decided to make the most of her studies at UQ.

As always find out what is happening in our arena in From the Field and get the information you were looking for on current work opportunities and volunteering experience in Australia and international contexts in Opportunities.

We appreciate all feedback about the newsletter and input on what you would like to see in the future. Please contact Claudia Sepulveda with your thoughts.

Until our next newsletter!
