April 2017

Greetings and welcome to our second newsletter for 2017! Four months into the year now and we're all busy here at the CfCSC, but don't worry about missing out, these articles are sure to keep you up to date on our progress and latest news.

In this month's News From the Centre, we show a snapshot of a presentation that Centre Director Elske van de Fliert recently gave as part of the School of Communication and Arts’ research seminar series on the processes and outcomes of  a rural communication project she has been leading since 2013 in Mongolia. We also provide a reflection on the progress of our CSC book series with Palgrave. Initiated in 2014 and edited by Pradip Thomas and Elske van de Fliert, this book series has steadily become known for championing writing on novel critical theories, methodological breakthroughs and practical implications of CSC.

In addition, we are excited to announce the latest publication in the series: “In the Aftermath of Gezi: From Social Movement to Social Change”, edited by Oscar Hemer and Hans-Åke Persson, which addresses aspects of social and political development in Turkey and the latter’s role within a global context.

In Student Spotlight, we profile alumnus Rev. Fr. Dr Gerald Musa, who is employing his excellent CSC skills to train future change makers in Nigeria and beyond and as such contribute to the well-being of many vulnerable people in the West African region. We interviewed Gerald about his work, life and approaches to communication for social change since he returned to Nigeria after graduating from UQ with a PhD in 2013.
