March 2015

This month we have been pushing the boundaries of communication for social change on a global level. Recently we have have joined the Communication for Rural Development and Social Change – Global Research Initiative (GRI), which exists to mainstream communication for development into the wider development agenda and practice. The group is made up of the leading research institutions in the field working alongside the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO).

We have also partnered with the communications journal Nordicom Review to edit a special issue 'Beyond the Impasse: Exploring new thinking in communication for social change' which explores gaps and opportunities in theory and research.

Locally we have partnered with the Brisbane chapter Communication for Development (C4D) Network, which recently held an event: 'Evaluating Communication for Development: Learnings from the Assessing Communication for Social Change project' with Dr June Lennie.

In Student Spotlight, we profile alumna Ali Rae, who is working as a digital producer for Al Jazeera English in London.

We also speak to Grady Walker
, who has just returned from his PhD field work using participatory video with young adults in Nepal.
