December 2016

Welcome to our final newsletter for 2016!

In this edition of Student Spotlight we profile two CSC Master's program alumnae doing fantastic work within large institutions. Veronica Cazut is working for the United Nations in Argentina on a communication project addressing environmental management in the mining sector. Meanwhile Jordan Tredinnick is implementing key workforce diversity and inclusion programs in her job at the University of Queensland.

We also congratulate and farewell seven of our CSC postgraduate students who graduated yesterday! Joseph Arceo, James Laraki, Adesuwa Ohenhen and Allyson Starky have each earned their Master of Communication, while Stephanie Hubbard, Cassandra Vickers and Lawrence Yakimov received Graduate Certificates. We look forward to hearing about where their CSC skills and passion lead them in the future.

In News from the Centre, we are excited to be hosting visiting scholar Professor Nico Carpentier next week. He will be presenting a free public seminar in Brisbane entitled Illusions of Participation: A critical analysis of power relations in the media field. Click this link for more information and to RSVP.

We report on a recent guest lecture by PNG's Centre for Social and Creative Media founder, Dr Verena Thomas, about her innovative approach to integrating Indigenous knowledge systems into creative storytelling projects.

Also, don't miss our interview with Dr Teke Ngomba, co-editor of the recently published book Methodological Reflections of Researching Communication and Social Change. Dr Ngomba's passion for methodological issues in CSC research is both rare and compelling!

This month's featured news From the Field covers a national conference in Mongolia called Innovation Education in the Agricultural Sector. The conference was created as a platform to share findings from our four year project working to support the livelihoods of nomadic herders.

Finally, as this year fast draws to a close, we thank you for your support and wish you a fantastic holiday season. We will be taking a break in January, but look forward to collaborating and sharing our CSC work with you upon our return in 2017.
