Professor Luke Connelly is Director, Australian Centre for Economic Research on Health at the University of Queensland (ACERH UQ) and Associate Director of the Centre for National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD).
His main research interest is in health economics, including the economics of health insurance, provider and consumer behaviour in health care markets, and the impact of health policies on efficiency.
The focus of his current research is injury, disability, rehabilitation and compensation systems, ageing and health care financing. Luke’s previous academic posts include appointments at the Brisbane Graduate School of Business and the Schools of Public Health and Economics and Finance at QUT. He has also been an adjunct to the Australian Graduate School of Management.
Recent peer-reviewed publications include articles in The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance, International Journal of Health Care Finance and Economics, Health Economics, European Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Health Care Finance and Controlled Clinical Trials.
With colleagues, Luke has obtained more than $7 million as a CI from the NHMRC and ARC in the past 5 years. Project grants that are relevant to the CCRE include collaborative grants with Profs Jull and Vicenzino and A/Prof Sterling on physiotherapy interventions. Prof Connelly will contribute expert knowledge to the design and conduct of economic analyses in clinical trials conducted in the centre.
He will work with the other CIs to oversee the contribution of economic analyses of other end stage trials in the translation to clinical practice, community healthcare and health policy.
