- Congratulations to CCRE SPINE Post Doctoral Research Fellow Siobhan Schabrun on her success in obtaining an IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain) Early Career Research Grant funded by the ScanDesign Foundation BY INGER & JENS BRUUN. The award is for $20,000 and the title of the grant is “Understanding the transition from acute to chronic pain”.

- The CCRE SPINE and CONROD has jointly hosted the second of its international summit meetings "Whiplash: How to lessen the transition to chronicity". The think tank of 21 international delegates approached the condition of Whiplash from a bio-psycho-social context and laid a road map forward for future research on how to help the more than 50% of whiplash sufferers who transition to a chronic condition. Outcomes of the meeting include a journal supplement due for publication in late 2011.
- Following on from the summit meeting, as part of the Centre's translational activities an open feedfback forum was held for those who work closely with Whiplash sufferers including clinicians and insurers. Held on February 19th & 20th, the symposium provided the audience the opportunity to hear from all 21 international delegates from a multi-disciplinary persepctive.

Henry Tsao, Lieven Danneels and Paul Hodges awarded the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine 2011 Prize for best paper (Basic Science). The paper that is the basis for the award is: Tsao H, Danneels LA, Hodges PW. (2011) Smudging the motor brain in recurrent low back pain, Spine, In press (To be published in the Spine special edition for ISSLS in 2011).

- Professor Bill Vicenzino and his team of Brooke Coombes and Leanne Bissett have been acknowledged for their ongoing research in the area of elbow tendonopathy with a publication accepted to the Lancet. The paper titled "Efficacy and safety of corticosteroid injections and other injections for management of tendinopathy: a systematic review of randomised controlled trials" can be viewed by clicking here (this will direct you to the Lancet online journal).
