The Centre for Companion  Animal Health

Memorial Fund .

The Memorial Fund at the Centre for Companion Animal Health was established to help fund vital research into preventing and treating diseases that affect our pets. It also supports studies which facilitate the therapeutic benefits of pet ownership for the aged, disadvantaged and general community, and studies aimed at finding solutions to prevent the rising numbers of homeless and unwanted pets that are euthanised annually.

The fund is supported solely by donations made by practising veterinarians and pet owners, and contributions go directly toward helping us achieve our vision: to improve the health and welfare of our pets through world class studies that increase our knowledge and allow us to better prevent and treat diseases.  All studies are carried out with profound respect for animal life and are minimally invasive, non-terminal and do not create disease in healthy animals.

Why get involved?

As we all know, the loss of a beloved pet can be a devastating event in the life of any devoted owner. The Memorial Fund gives veterinarians and clinics the opportunity to show their sympathy to clients who are grieving the loss of a beloved pet. It also provides the opportunity to support studies to improve the health of companion animals, as well as offering scholarships for veterinarians in practice to undertake further study and advance their career.

The Memorial Fund presents you with the unique opportunity to reassure your client that you are thinking of them at this sad time, and as a gesture of your condolences, you make a donation to the Fund in memory of their pet. They will then receive a Memorial Leaflet, which we will provide you with to send your client notifying them of the gift you have made.  Many pet owners feel that concern shown by their veterinarian after the loss of their pet helped them get through the emotions and grief they experienced. It has also been shown that participation in an Memorial Program increases the likelihood of your client returning to your practice with a new pet.
