BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Campus Kindergarten is a unique and diverse early childhood education and care centre situated at the University of Queensland, St Lucia campus. The centre operates dually as a Crèche and Kindergarten-affiliated Kindergarten/Preschool and a long day care centre. Currently, the centre provides programs for children from 2.5 years to school age in three groups. Campus Kindergarten has a strong community culture, built upon the concepts of rights, respect, trust and responsibilities. The centre is very well-resourced and includes a charming building that supports the highest quality programs.
Campus Kindergarten is a community based non-profit organisation. The Board of Management, made up eight current parent and independent members, manages the centre at a general level, overseeing the broad policies and procedures. The Director, as a representative of the Campus Kindergarten community, reports to the Board at each meeting, making recommendations based on his/her knowledge of early childhood education. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the centre.
The Board of Management values staff most highly and provides quite exceptional professional support for staff in terms of a comprehensive professional development policy and program, including access to funding for conferences and seminars and paid maternity leave.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Board of management and the director
TEAM CONTACTS: Coordinating teacher, group leader, the team from this facility links into the larger centre team where contacts are made with other co-workers.
EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Parents, students, visitors, e.g. Speakers, performers
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- Assist the Teacher/Group Leader with planning, implementing and evaluating a program for the specific age group in accordance with Centre philosophy, and policies (Refer to centre handbooks).
- Assist in ensuring that a standard of 'high quality' is maintained with regard to the children's nutrition, health and safety (refer to accreditation information and centre handbooks).
- Assist in providing an environment for children that is pleasant, warm and friendly, and which fosters good self-esteem and independence.
- Assist with the disciplining of children in accordance with Centre philosophy and policy (Refer to handbooks).
- Interact with parents in a positive, informative manner helping them to feel welcome to participate in 'room' activities when possible and appropriate.
- Develop successful communication patterns with co-workers, which demonstrate respect and appreciation for the role each member plays in the attainment of Centre goals.
- Prepare morning teas, clean up after morning teas.
- Other duties as per 'Work Instructions', to be negotiated with the Director.
It is expected that the assistant will develop both professionally and personally by observing the Teacher/Group Leader's high quality performance and work habits.

A high level of verbal and written communication skills.

Selection Criteria:
Appointees must demonstrate an ability to undertake the duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position. To be appointed as an Assistant at Campus Kindergarten, a candidate must meet the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection panel and the Board of Management.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Certificate 111, Community Services, Children’s Services or equivalent
- Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR
- Current Positive Blue Card
- How would you provide an environment that is pleasant, warm and friendly, and which fosters good self esteem and independence?
- Provide examples of your ability to assist with the supporting of positive behaviours of children.
- Give examples of how you interact with families.
- Provide evidence of your ability to develop successful communication patterns with co-workers.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Currently we have a vacancy for a 2 day ECE position -
Thursday and Friday - hours 7.30am to 3.00pm
It is a contract position until approximately August - with possibility of
an extension. Salary in accordance with ECE Award.
