enrolment procedures
As the demand for places at Campus Kindy outweighs supply, there is a waiting list. Due to the high demand for child care Priority of Access Guidelines have been set by the Commonwealth Government Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (Children’s Services Handbook 2006-2007).
In accordance with these guidelines Priority of Access is as follows:
-
A child at risk of serious abuse or neglect;
-
A child of a single parent, who satisfies, or of parents who both satisfy, the work/training/study test under section 14 of the Family Assistance Act;
-
Any other child.
Within these main categories the centre is required to give priority of access as follows:
-
Children in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families;
-
Children in families with a disabled person;
-
Children in families which include an individual whose taxable income percent under clause 7 of Schedule 2 to the Family Assistance Act is 100 percent;
-
Children in families with a non-English speaking background;
-
Children in socially isolated families;
-
Children of single parents
Priority of access is also given to siblings of children who have attended the centre and for staff’s children.
The main offer of enrolment places takes place in September-October for the following January.
Enrolment interviews are held during November and parents and children are further familiarised with the staff and centre.
orientation procedures
A child and family’s enrolment and orientation to the centre is given careful thought and planning in order to ensure that this process supports a positive move into the Campus Kindergarten community.
An Information session is held for families in October each year. This session provides a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to meet together and share the Campus Kindergarten culture, philosophy and curriculum. A number of key Campus Kindergarten policies as well as ‘housekeeping’ matters are also shared during this evening.
Enrolment interviews are held in November, where individual families meet with the Director and the classroom Co-ordinating teacher. This is also a valuable time to share information and for both Campus Kindergarten and each family to start on our journey as partners in your child’s education and care.
Families are encouraged to spend time at Campus Kindy prior to a child commencing. This fosters a smooth transition for the children.
An Orientation morning is held in November providing a valuable opportunity for children and parents to spend time with other new families and the classroom teachers.
transition to Campus Kindy
Each child is different and time spent to help a child settle will vary greatly. The Campus Kindergarten year commences with a ‘staggered’ start where the first week is an optional attendance week with all teachers working in the classrooms. During this week approximately half the class attends so it supports a smooth transition. We certainly encourage parents to stay with children for a period of time. Please discuss your child's prior experiences and needs with the teachers. Together we can develop a transition process that will support your child's happy move into the Campus Kindy community.
inclusion support enrolments
Campus Kindergarten is committed to the successful inclusion of all children in the program and recognises that a child with specific disabilities may benefit from inclusion in a regular program. Application for a child who has special rights (relating to health, physical, intellectual or sensory impairments) will be considered with regard to the ability of staff to meet both the child’s needs, and all individuals in the group equitably.
(Refer to Campus Kindergarten policy ‘Inclusion’ in the Campus Kindergarten Handbook or on the Admin page above).
