Brisbane Buddhas
Exhibition project
Museum of Brisbane—in partnership with the Centre for Buddhist Studies, University of Queensland—is planning to present an exhibition exploring the different meanings associated with the image of the Buddha within the Brisbane community. The exhibition Brisbane Buddhas is scheduled to open in May 2005 and will be on display until mid-August 2005.
The exhibition will present more than 2000 Buddhas collected from Brisbane community and will encompass the multi-cultural communities of Brisbane, Buddhism as spiritual practice, Australian engagement with Asia etc. The collection of the Buddhas will provide an insight into the changing Brisbane community and the meanings associated with the Buddha.
The Centre for Buddhist Studies will contribute to the partnership in a number of ways, including:
Assistance with research, interpretation and development of exhibition
Co-production of a publication in association with the exhibition
Development of programs associated with the exhibition such as expert lectures, workshops, meditation classes etc.
