The Centre for Buddhist Studies was established in April 2004 within the School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics at the University of Queensland.
The main objectives of the Centre for Buddhist Studies are to:
- Foster research into various areas of Buddhist Studies, with special focus on Buddhist textual traditions and methods of Buddhist meditative practices.
- Support the teaching of Buddhist studies within the School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics at the University of Queensland, coordinate and expand the undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Buddhist studies and encourage an interdisciplinary approach in Buddhist studies.
- Initiate cooperation in research and postgraduate training with leading academic institutions for Buddhist Studies in Australia and abroad.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration with academic institutions working on related areas of research.
- Develop links with the general public through collaborative projects, seminars, workshops and publications.
