Jacqui commenced working as an RN in 1985 and since that time her nursing career has been varied with experience in clinical, education, management & research areas. The majority of her clinical experience has been in the critical care areas. Jacqui’s first experience of nursing education was working with new graduate nurses as a clinical educator in the early 1990’s in these areas. Since that time she has worked as a clinical facilitator with undergraduate students, a clinical educator for coronary/intensive care in a Saudi Arabian hospital, a new graduate program coordinator and a nurse re-entry program coordinator.
Jacqui’s research experience includes assisting with several projects conducted by Newcastle University, including the development of guidelines for registered and enrolled nurses regarding the boundaries of professional practice. The area of new graduate transition into the workplace has also been of interest, which led to her involvement in a research project conducted within a NSW area health service.
Over the last 15 years, Jacqui has developed an enthusiasm for teaching which led her to a position with UQ in 2004 as a Clinical Lecturer with the Bachelor of Nursing program. Jacqui now coordinates the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice). Her interest in general practice nursing was sparked in 2004 when she worked for the Australian Practice Nurses Association as their education coordinator. In 2007 she took up a fulltime Australian Research Council funded scholarship to commence her PhD on a project titled - The feasibility, acceptability and cost-effectiveness of nurse-led models of chronic disease management in general practice. She is focusing on the impact of a nurse-led collaborative care model of chronic disease management on the patient’s health and quality of life.
