We congratulate those involved in the success of the recent cycle of ARC funding. John Macarthur, Deborah van der Plaat  and Andrew Wilson were successful in their joint bid for the ARC Linkage grant with the project "Architectural Practice in Postwar Queensland (1945-1975): Building and Interpreting an Oral History Archive." The project was developed with Jane Hunter and Gavin Bannerman together with industry partners including: the State Library Queensland, Wilson Architects, BVN, Riddel Architecture, and Conrad Gargett Architecture. The project will come into effect in 2011 and run until 2013. The total value of the research grant is estimated to exceed one million dollars.

Additionally, John Macarthur, Naomi Stead, and Deborah van der Plaat were also awarded the prestigious ARC Discovery grant for 2011-13 for the project "The Cultural Logic of Queensland Architecture: Place, Taste and Economy".

These most recent successes complement the already formidable list of high level research funding applications active within ATCH, which include Naomi Stead's winning bid for a 2010 ARC Linkage grant awarded in June 2010. The grant is entitled “Equity and Diversity in the Australian Architecture Profession: Women, Work, and Leadership”, and includes five industry partners: Australian Institute of Architects; ArchitectureMedia; along with three architecture offices, BVN, PTW, and Bates Smart. The research team consists of seven academics from five Australian universities, and is led by Naomi Stead. These include: A/Prof Julie Willis; Prof Sandra Kaji-O’Grady; Prof Gillian Whitehouse; Prof Susan Savage; Dr Karen Burns; and Dr Amanda Roan. The project will run from the beginning of 2011 to the end of 2013, and includes an ARC-funded, project-specific PhD position.

Together with John Macarthur and Andrew Leach's 2009 ARC Discovery project "The Baroque in Architectural Culture 1880-1980" begun in 2009, these recent successes continue the strong results of previous research fundng outcomes within ATCH.
