Applications for the 2015 Antiquities Museum Volunteer Program are now open.

Over the last few years the Museum has been working on some changes to its volunteering program and in 2015, we are ready to roll out a new vision for the volunteer experience. This change is part of our 2015 – 2017 Strategic Plan that places an emphasis on the Museum’s people and communities, including UQ students. As a result, this new program aims to offer a meaningful industry experience to our volunteers with improved professional development, mentorship, and recognition of volunteer success.

Volunteers are a key part of the Museum’s vision for the future and without their input, the Museum cannot be a success.

This year we will be initially offering ten Gallery Volunteer Positions and up to eight Special Project Volunteer Positions in the areas of collections, exhibitions, database, and 3D . Please email James Donaldson, Senior Museum Officer, at j.donaldson@uq.edu.au to express your interest in volunteering with the Museum in 2015 and receive position descriptions with further details on these positions, their responsibilities, and requirements. Volunteer sessions are divided into AM (9:30 – 1:00) and PM (1:00 – 4:30) shifts. Volunteers  will complete one shift per week based on the Museum roster. Special Project Volunteers work to a project timeline, when completed the volunteering position ends and applications will be sought for new projects. Gallery volunteers generally work with the Museum for 12 months.  All volunteers will be required to complete OHS and work training.

The submission process for volunteering will now include a short expression of interest document and resume to ensure that volunteers are placed in the most suitable position within the museum.

To apply for a volunteer position, please consult the relevant position description(s) and submit (to antiquitiesmuseum@uq.edu.au) a brief resume (maximum 3 pages) along with a one page cover letter, nominating up to three positions you would like to be considered for. The closing date for applications is  Friday 20th February at 5pm. After this time, brief interviews will be held and positions allocated to successful applicants.
