Visit/Tour Bookings and Enquiries

General Public

Visits by interested members of the public are welcomed.   The museum is open 9.00 - 5.00 daily for walk-in visitors free of charge.

Tours can also be arranged, and for a small fee (listed below). Education Officers are available to take visitors around the museum.  Groups wishing to book a tour should use the Group Visit Request form.

Interested persons without Internet access should contact the Antiquities Museum office during business hours on: Telephone (07) 3365 3010.

The Antiquities Museum can also be contacted via email at:  antiquitiesmuseum@uq.edu.au.

Schools

We welcome both primary and high school groups.  School teachers wishing to arrange a visit for groups of students should use the School Visit Request.   Guided tours and workshops given by Education Officers can be arranged by contacting the office at least two weeks in advance, and attract a small fee.

Primary School Visits

We offer a stimulating program aimed at primary school students, including a tour of the museum, where students make use of an informative and fun worksheet in order to interact with the artefacts on display.  A workshop program is also included in which students are able to handle and look at artefacts from the museum in a controlled environment. Tours last one hour and hands-on workshops a further hour.

High School Visits

For high school students, there are two options for visiting the museum. The first is a guided tour of the museum which lasts one hour, during which, time is given to fill out interactive worksheets.

For those wishing to provide their students with a more in-depth experience, there is a two hour option.  The first hour consists of the guided tour.  During the second hour, the students take part in a workshop in which artefacts from the collection are taken out, and students are given the opportunity to handle the objects, and to examine them at close quarters.

This second option is recommended in order to get the most out of the visit.  The tour and workshop program can be tailored to individual needs on request.

If your group is larger than 25 people, we will usually split it into smaller groups.  The best time for visiting the museum is in the morning, though other times can be negotiated.
