Introduction

This page contains all the documents and information which you will need before your school or group's visit to the Antiquities Museum. At the beginning of your visit, an education officer will meet you at the Museum on Level 3 of the Michie Building (Building 9). Parking for a minibus can be arranged by ringing 3365 1016, but unfortunately we do not have facilities for bus parking on campus, although the students may be dropped near the Michie Building. We suggest that a cheap alternative to hiring a bus for a visit may be to catch public transport, particularly for small groups. For more information on our location and how to get here, please see Visitor Information.

The “hands on” workshop consists of discussions and the close inspection of a variety of ancient artefacts, while the tour will be a general look at the archaeological remains from all periods and places represented in the museum. The duration of your visit will normally be two hours, unless you have arranged with us otherwise (i.e. 1 hour tour | 1 hour workshop). Students will not be given a substantial break between these sessions so please insure that you arrive early if your students need to visit the bathroom, eat or have a drink.

Things You Need

In the box to the side of this page, there are links to a booking sheet and a worksheet. Please bring a copy of the booking sheet with you, clearly listing the number of students who attend on the day and give it to your education officer. The University of Queensland Financial Department can then contact and bill your school.

The worksheet is currently aimed at senior highschool students but is equally suited to other year levels, if you have a specific topic on which your class is focusing, please let us know and we can tailor your tour to suit. The worksheet is optional but encouraged. Students will be given time at the end of the tour to finish their worksheets and ask questions. Please watch this space for new education programs as they are developed.

Extras

The museum now stocks a range of merchandise which are perfect as souveniers or as teacher aids. Please see our Merchandise page. Special deals for teachers are available (7 posters plus postage and handling for $40), contact the museum office for more details.

Bookings

Group visits to the Antiquities Museum bust be booked in advance and do incur a fee. Precedence will always be given to paying groups over those who are visiting casually. For groups, weather visiting as part of an Antiquities Museum program, or casually, bookings are essential to avoid clashes. General admission to the public is free. For more information about the price of your visit, please check the School Education Program and Other Tours page.

If you have any comments, queries or suggestions, please contact the Antiquities Museum on (07) 3365 3010 or at antiquitiesmuseum@uq.edu.au. We hope you enjoy your visit.
