PROVIDEN.DEOR.
When Florian brother Tacitus died in A.D. 276, Florian was acknowledged as Emperor by the Senate and all the provinces, except Syria, where the army supported Probus. A civil war between the two seemed likely. Florian, however, was killed by his own soldiers only three months after he took office.
For a reign so short, the reverses on his coins are surprisingly varied. Artistically the coins maintain a consistent standard of merit.
